“I’m not scared. I don’t panic” said Somen Debnath while cycling around the streets in Beijing on 4th February. China was his 154th nation after having cycled around the world since 2004. Somen, our young man from Basanti, Sunderbans, West Bengal, has faced even tougher challenges when Taliban militants kidnapped him for 24 days in Afghanistan, when he narrowly escaped a bomb blast in Iraq and many such life threatening incidents across the globe. Today he is in his 157th country New Zealand. I checked with him today and was relieved to know that he is merrily cycling away in Bluff. I had met him in Sudan in November 2013 when it was his 82nd country. He has many more miles to pedal to fulfill his dream of cycling 200,000 km and visiting 191 countries.
